Jon Kozuska

Candidate for Director

The residents of Area D (Falkland, Silver Creek, Salmon Valley, Deep Creek, Ranchero, and Gardom Lake) deserve representation from someone that listens first and acts only with clear community direction. Should you elect me to the position of area director, my commitment is to engage directly with constituents, understand their priorities, and to ensure that every decision I make reflects the needs and values of all the communities within Area D.

In today’s challenging economic climate, families are already carrying a heavy financial burden. I will not support the creation of new services that increase taxation unless the communities of Area D explicitly request them. Responsible stewardship of public funds will remain a core principle throughout my term as well as accessing funds for community infrastructure projects.

Supporting our local non‑profits is essential to maintaining the social and cultural fabric of Area D. I will continue to prioritize Grant‑in‑Aid funding for these organizations, while also working to restore access to the Community Works Fund for larger community projects—similar to past improvements made to the Falkland and Silver Creek community halls, the curling rink upgrades, and other vital infrastructure.

I will continue advocating for the conservation of Mallory Ridge Park and will push forward efforts to secure a day‑use park for Falkland and upgrades to the concession stand and community park in Silver Creek. Ranchero has long needed a community hall to serve the east side of Area D, and I will work collaboratively with residents, the CSRD Board, and staff to see if we can find a suitable community meeting space for residents during my term.

Although the CSRD does not hold direct jurisdiction over issues such as highway safety, watershed management, or wildfire response, I will use my elected position to ensure Area D has a strong and persistent voice to advocate for support in these areas and increased safety. I will advocate with our MLA, MP, and through venues such as UBCM to address speeding concerns in Falkland and Silver Creek, support watershed‑level solutions for drought and water use, and strengthen community‑level involvement in wildfire preparedness. Integrating our local fire departments and volunteer wildfire groups more closely with BC Wildfire Service will be a priority to improve response times and community resilience.

My role is to champion the interests of Area D—ensuring that provincial and federal partners understand our challenges, hear our concerns, and work with us to deliver meaningful solutions. I am committed to being a strong, informed, and accessible advocate for every community within Area D.
